Addition Grab Two
A Game For Two Players
Print these directions and the playing cards (off this website). Duplicate the playing cards on two different colors of card stock. Laminate for extended use. Cut apart and give each student a different colored set of cards to use. (This helps to keep the sets separate and easier to organize them after the game.)
Materials Needed
- one set of cards numbered 0-9 (or less depending on your grade level of students)
Directions
Each player mixes up the cards and holds them with numbers facing him/her.
The players take turns drawing two cards from each other's hand.
Add the two numbers on the cards together.
Compare the sums. The player with the larger sum scores 1 point.
Players place these cards on the table and again pick two cards.
If a player runs out of cards before someone earns 10 points, they are to pick up the cards in the pile on the table.
Continue to play until one player earns 10 points.
The first person to reach 10 points is the winner.
Extensions
- Column addition (pick 3 or more cards)
- Subtraction . . . each player subtracts the smaller number from the larger one. The player with the larger difference scores 1 point. The first player to reach 10 points is the winner. Alternate: smaller difference scores 1 point.
