Sierra Bear Game Boards

Grade Level: Pre-K through 2nd Grade

Number of Players: Individual, groups of 2, 3 or 4

Contents: 4 each of Balloons, Tree House, and Gumball Gameboards, 3 Spinners

Size:Each Gameboard is eight and one half by eleven inches

Focus

The Generic Game boards are designed to provide a child centered format for a variety of practice opportunities in basic skills. These gameboards can be used by individual students or shared by a small group of four.

Management

1. Color and laminate the game boards and spinners for extended use.
2. Use any of the Basic Skills Practice Card Packs with the game boards.

Procedure

1. Give each student, each pair (to share), or a group of four students one game board.

2. Place a set of shape cards face down in front of the students.

3. Taking turns, direct each student to draw one card. They are to name the basic skill on their card. For example: name the letter, numeral or count the number of dots, etc.

4. If the student gives a correct response, direct them to either spin the spinner and move that many spaces on their gameboard, or to simply place one marker on their gameboard.

5. If the student gives an incorrect response, direct them to pass their card to the next player.

6. Play continues until all the players have filled their gameboards with markers or when the first player reaches the end of the path on the gameboard.

• Numeral Matching/Recognition/Naming cards 0-30
• Letters-Upper Case and Lower Case - A-Z
• Shapes and Position Cards - 2 sets of 16 cards for practice in using position vocabulary. For example: The bear is inside the circle or next to the triangle, etc. With an additional 2 sets of 16 cards for practice in naming basic shapes. For example: squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, etc.
• Addition/Subtraction - flash cards for practice with basic facts
