Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to be with students to complete the course requirements?
- No, you do not have to be with students to complete the course. Many teachers complete the assignments during their summer break, or between year-round sessions. Go to Log Forms to download and print a special recording form for use without students.
- When can I begin the courses?
- You can begin whenever you would like. You do not need to coincide with a particular semester. Students receive credit for courses in the semester that assignments are returned to the instructor, satisfactorily completed. Credit is not issued by date of enrollment in a course.
- What is involved in the course assignments?
- Each Math course included manipulatives and lessons for over 100 classroom experiences. You are asked to choose any 25 lessons or activities. You will need to either teach these activities with students or work through them yourself and then respond on a Log Form. The Log Form asks you to identify your objective for the lesson, how you used the lesson, ie: whole group, small group, individual, as an introduction to the concept, as practice, or as assessment, etc. The form continues by asking you to reflect on the lesson and if you would make adjustments the next time you teach the lesson. Once you have completed the 25 Log Forms, you return the Log Forms, (you keep all the materials for your classroom) the course evaluation, and your registration form to the instructor. The instructor reviews your work and issues either a grade, A,B,C or credit, no credit grade report to the university.
- The Language Arts Course is a bit more involved as it asks you to review current research, state and local content standards, a text, and a classroom thematic unit. You are asked to provide a breif response/reflection to each required reading and to then prepare the thematic unit for your classroom. Again, you do not have to actually teach the unit - you can prepare it for when it would be appropriate to use with your class. Everything is included in the materials for the course.
- What if I order a course and it does not meet my expectations?
- As soon as you receive your materials, be sure to look them over carefully and decide if the course will meet your needs. If you do not want to complete the course, be sure to return the materials within 4 weeks of receiving them. A full refund for tuition and instructional materials, less a $20 handling fee, will be
granted if a course is dropped within four weeks after registration and all materials
are returned to the instructor in their original condition. After four weeks, a 50%
refund will be granted through nine weeks per institutional policy. After nine
weeks there is no refund. Students must officially withdraw from a course, or a
"no credit" grade will be issued by the instructor one year after the date of
registration.
- Are the courses really geared for specific grade levels?
- Yes, if a course is listed for K-1 then it has been designed in a developmental format to meet the needs of those students. If a course is listed for 3-5 it would not be appropriate for most K-1 classrooms.
- If I have questions during the course, how do I get in touch with the instructor?
- You will receive the instructor's home phone number, email, and address. You are encouraged to call the instructor as many times as you need to for complete clarification within the course.
- I'm ready, how do I enroll?
